This page details how inLeague platform fees are collected, how the amounts are determined, and which platform fees are refundable.
Every league has several mechanisms available to collect fees:
1. Player registration payments
2. [Team-level payments](https://confluence.inleague.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=3014674) (payments made and credited to a team to which the player is assigned)
3. Event signups
4. [Invoice templates](https://confluence.inleague.org/display/IUG/Invoicing+and+Payment+Templates)
5. Donations and Sponsorships
On April 15, 2022, inLeague will begin collecting **Platform Fees** on most transactions processed through inLeague. These platform fees are distinct from Stripe Fees that go to the merchant services processor; while inLeague negotiates a group discount for Stripe fees, we do not have anything to do with them and do not receive any portion of them.
How and when platform fees apply depends on the mechanism used (see below).
## Stripe Fees and Refunds
Stripe charges 2.9% + 30 cents of all transactions; inLeague has negotiated this down to 2.7% + 30 cents for all of our customers.
These fees are non-refundable, **except** when the transaction is refunded prior to 'settling.' This is usually within the first 12 hours after the transaction is made. There is no fixed time when transactions settle, but account holders can reach out to Stripe to request a specific time window. Refunds issued against transactions that have not settled are considered **voided** and do not appear as charges on the customer's credit card at all.
Once a transaction has settled, Stripe (and inLeague) will still allow a full refund, but the league is responsible for refunding the Stripe Fee 'portion' of the transaction.
**Example**: A parent donates $100 to the league on Monday. Stripe deducts (0.27 * $100) + 0.30 == $3.00. The league nets $97 to their Stripe account balance. On Friday, the league refunds the full $100 to the parent. The league "nets" **-$3.00**, which is subtracted from their Stripe account balance (or their bank account, if they do not have a positive Stripe account balance).
inLeague recommends the use of holdbacks whenever possible and as we migrate our legacy reports to the 20th Anniversary Edition platform, we will make the Stripe transaction fees (which are already visible in the transaction ledger) as transparent as possible whenever refunds are being issued.

## Player Registration
* **Platform Fees: $3 + 3%** of each registration transaction. It is not currently possible to register multiple players in a single transaction, or to register a player for multiple programs in a single transaction, but these are possibilities for future development.
**Example**: A parent pays $200 to register a player for Fall 2022.
Stripe deducts 2.7% + 0.30: (0.27 * $200) + 0.30 == $5.70
inLeague deducts 3% + $3.00 (0.03 * $200) + 3.00 = $9.00
The league nets $185.30.
* **Refunds:** When a player is waitlisted and dropped without ever being removed from the waitlist, the associated platform fee is refunded to the parent. **If the player is dropped but the platform fee is not refunded** (i.e. the player was not waitlisted), the player will receive a platform fee **credit** against a future registration within the same season.
The following example scenarios do not include the National Player Fee, which is invoiced every month and charged for each player once per membership year. It is not charged if the player is never taken off the waitlist (as those records are not sent to AYSO and are therefore not insured).
**Example 1**: The player is not waitlisted and drops a week after registering. If the league issues a full ($200) refund, the league nets **-$14.70**.
**Example 1a**: The player from example 1 returns a week later and re-registers for $200. inLeague 'credits' their platform fee of $9 from their original registration and does not deduct anything for their second registration. Stripe still deducts $5.70 from the second transaction. The league nets **$179.60** ($200 - $5.70 - $5.70 - $9). (Stripe makes out very nicely here, which is why we suggest refund holdbacks to cover their fees as well as AYSO's).
**Example 1b**: The player from example 1 returns a week later and re-registers, but the fee has gone up to $250. They receive the platform fee credit of $9 and inLeague deducts $1.50 (the difference between $9 and their new platform fee of $11.50). The league nets **$175.75** ($200 - $5.70 - $7.05 - $11.50).
**Example 2**: The player was waitlisted and drops a week after registering. If the league issues a full ($200) refund, the platform fees are refunded and the league nets **-$5.70** ($200 - $5.70 - $200).
**Example 3**: The player was waitlisted and drops thirty minutes after registering. If the league issues a full ($200) refund and the transaction has (most likely) not yet settled on Stripe, the league nets **$0.00** as all Stripe fees and platform fees are refunded.
## Event Signups (Players or Users)
Platform fees for event signups are also **$3 + 3%**. Stripe fees are the same regardless of the transaction type. Event Signups are distinct in that multiple players (or players and users) may be signed up in a single transaction, and both Stripe and inLeague platform fees apply **per-transaction** and not **per-signup**
**Refunds**: inLeague platform fees are non-refundable for all event registrations.
**Example 1**: A parent signups up two children in their family for a Summer training session. Each event registration is $100. The league nets **$185.30** (200 - $5.70 in Stripe Fees - $9 in platform fees).
**Example 2**: A parent signs up one child for a Summer training session, and then returns a week later to sign up another one. The league nets $182.00 ($100 - $3 in Stripe Fees - $6 in platform fees + $100 for the second registration - $3 in Stripe fees - $6 in platform fees).
The user interface for the event manager promotes signing up multiple players or users in one sitting.

## Invoice Templates
Platform fees for invoice templates are also **$3 + 3%**. Stripe fees are the same regardless of transaction type.
**Refunds**: inLeague platform fees are non-refundable for all invoice templates.
## Donations
inLeague does not charge platform fees on donations, whether they are made during registration or as standalone donations. Stripe fees are the same regardless of transaction type.
## Sponsorships
inLeague does not charge platform fees on sponsorships. |
